1999-2006 Chevy & GMC Truck Weatherstrip: A Buyer's Guide
The 1999-2006 GM full-size trucks — Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Avalanche and the Escalade variants — are past the point where they're just used trucks. They're getting kept, cleaned up, and in a lot of cases restored properly. And the first thing that goes on all of them is rubber.
Weatherstrip on a truck this age is typically twenty-plus years old, has spent every one of those years in the sun, and is the reason for most of the complaints owners have: wind noise, water in the footwell, water inside the door, and a cab that smells like a wet dog after a rainstorm. Here's what the parts are, in the order most people end up buying them.
Door seals — the ones you notice first
The main rubber seal around the door opening. When it goes hard and takes a set, the door stops sealing at the top corner and you get wind noise and water. This is the single most-ordered part in the family.
The important thing to know before you order: door seals for these trucks are split by cab configuration. Standard cab, extended cab and crew cab are all different part numbers, and left and right are sometimes sold individually. A few examples straight off our shelves:

Beltline moldings — the cheap job that fixes water in the door
The strip along the bottom of the side window opening that wipes the glass as it goes down. When it's worn, water runs straight down inside the door and pools at the bottom — which is exactly where these trucks rust. If you hear water sloshing in a door, this is your part.

Cowl end cap seals — the leak nobody checks
At each end of the cowl, where the fender, hood and windshield area all meet, there's a seal that most people have never touched. When it's gone, water gets past the fender and into the cab — and because it's not at the door, owners chase door seals for months trying to fix it.

A sensible order of operations
- Door seals — biggest effect on noise and the most obvious leak path.
- Beltline moldings — cheap, visible improvement, and stops the door rotting from the inside.
- Cowl end caps — the one to do if water's still getting in after the first two.
Before you order
Have three things ready: the exact year, whether it's Chevrolet or GMC, and the cab configuration (standard, extended, or crew). Those three decide the part number.
